Celebrating Kindness with GEMS Genesis International

Kindness at GGiS has a different flavour and the Letters of Appreciation as well as Paint Your Thoughts activity is proof of it.

We got our learners thinking about ‘What kindness means to them?’ They discussed the significance of kindness and accepted that generosity isn’t a value that should be conditional. These activities were taken up in our Circle Time sessions where they were to characterise Kindness and they sure did come up with mindful responses.

They concurred that Kindness is helping individuals around them while being grateful for the help they’ve received in the smallest and the greatest of the ways. Some shared how their companions helped them when they were confused with academics while another one shared how a friend played chess to make the child feel included in the class.

Likewise, some suggested that Kindness is caring for yourself and appreciating your accomplishments; accepting yourself as you are and having faith in yourself to get past the storms that come your way.

They were invigorated for the “Paint Your Thoughts” activity on the theme: Acts of Kindness. They had such splendid thoughts! They promptly depicted the events of kindness that they experienced around them. It was a peep into their minds through open windows.

When learners were asked to compose appreciation letters, they were extremely excited and had lots of things to express. Some wrote letters to the teachers, while others wrote letters to their friends and parents. It was intriguing to see teenagers feel so deeply for their teacher who was recently injured and couldn’t attend school. They expressed their gratitude through letters and told him they missed him. While the other learners were shy to express their feelings towards their parents and friends, through these letters they realised how blessed they are to share company with the ‘support systems’ of their lives. We surely wish to share these innocent expressions with their friends, parents and teachers.

Daan Utsav helped celebrate a season of kindness for the week we spent expressing gratitude and appreciating the acts of kindness all around us.
