Kindness of Teachers

Nearly all of us have been touched by the kindness of a teacher sometime in our lives.

Be it giving us that much-needed encouragement when we felt we could never crack a Math problem or overlooking our naughtiness in class, fostering our curiosity about a subject or maybe that odd life lesson, the role of a teacher in shaping our lives, indeed our future is undeniable.

At CEQUE, through the course of our work, we have come across innumerable stories of kindness shown by teachers. This is especially so in the year when the pandemic upended the way we work presenting huge challenges for teachers and students alike.

Rohini Dandge, a teacher in a Zila Parishad school in Kasara in Thane district began a night school so her students could continue to learn. Located off a railway track, the parents of children work as daily wage labour or small jobs and could only afford to give the children their mobiles at night. 200 kms across the state, in a small village in Gadchiroli, teacher Bapu Munghate argued vehemently with the parents and the gram panchayat, exhorting them to allow the children to return to school. Moved to action, a gram panchayat member offered his empty house as a space for classes, a police Patil contributed a mat for children to sit on while the teacher himself contributed money for creating teaching-learning aids. These acts of kindness ensured that the most marginalized children got a chance to attend this makeshift school. Rajun Garud, teaching at a Zila Parishad school in Palghar arranged for a puppet show to help children deal with the stress of the lockdown. The list goes on. At CEQUE we are privileged to work with such teachers.

With the innate kindness shown by teachers and armed with the right techniques, we envision a world where every child receives quality learning. We skill teachers who teach the most underserved children in innovative methods of teaching that help improve the quality of learning. Kyunki jab teachers seekhein tab bacche seekhein aur jab bacche seekhein tab India sekhein!
