Impact of Covid-19 on Education Reachability to Poor
UNDP sustainable goals define education as the enabler for upward socioeconomic mobility and a key component to escaping poverty. Over the past decade, major progress has been made globally towards increasing access to education and faculty enrollment rates in any respect, particularly for women. Nevertheless, about 260 million children were still out of school in 2018 — nearly one-fifth of the worldwide population in this age bracket. And over half of all children and adolescents worldwide aren’t meeting minimum proficiency standards in reading and arithmetic.
The year 2020, witnessed the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the world. With this spread a majority of nations announced the temporary closure of schools, impacting over 91 per cent of scholars worldwide. By April 2020, nearly 1.6 billion children and youth were out of school. And nearly 369 million children who needed school meals needed to rely on other sources for daily nutrition.
