The Initiative that resurrected the Kali Bein River

Born in 1962, Balbir Singh initiated an anti-river pollution campaign through which he cleared and resurrected the Kali Bein river.  The Kali Bein was once a river filled with garbage and was considered to be a river on the verge of dying.

In 2000, when Balbir spearhead the project KarSewa, a large number of volunteers decided to help him and take things into their own hands. The project was not only about cleaning up the river but also to beautify and naturalise the areas of the river that had been dry for many years including the banks of the river by planting trees.

Sant Balbir’s work doesn’t end over here. Over the last few years he has been heavily involved in setting up schools, institutions and degree colleges and simultaneously works towards eradicating poverty, ignorance, superstition and gender based violence and discrimination.

More recently, the environmentalist planted 100 tree saplings as a tribute to the former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam. Balbir Singh is on a mission to make the state clean and green. Ecobaba has constantly proved that he is truly a Hero of the Environment.
